“Young Billy is six months old today. He is healthy and happy and we are all very grateful for your prayers, good wishes, thoughts and support of @ChildrensLA and children’s hospitals in your area,” the funnyman captioned the image of his son, who has battled congenital heart disease, smiling as he sat in a car seat with a toy giraffe.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! star has publicly opposed the Graham-Cassidy bill and advocated to repeal Obamacare since his baby boy underwent open heart surgery after his birth.
Kimmel and wife Molly McNearney welcomed their son — full name William “Billy” John Kimmel — on April 21.
While announcing the birth of his son, Kimmel, 49, said that nurses and doctors discovered their newborn had a heart disease that required open heart surgery. He went on to thank the entire staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for saving their son’s life.
“My wife was in bed relaxing, a very attentive nurse at Cedars-Sinai heard a murmur in his heart and noticed he was a bit purple, which is not common,” Kimmel explained. “[Nurses] determined he wasn’t getting enough oxygen in his blood, either in his heart or lungs … It’s a terrifying thing, you know my wife is back in the recovery room, she has no idea what’s going on.”
Their son was born with a congenital heart disease and there was a “hole in the wall of the left and right side of his heart.”
“He’ll have to have another surgery in 3-6 months,” Kimmel said, adding that Billy will need a third “non-evasive surgery when he’s older.”
