Congratulations are in order for Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe. The Academy Award-winning actor, 35, and his wife are expecting their second child, PEOPLE reports. “Eddie and Hannah Redmayne are delighted to confirm they are expecting their second child,” his rep says in a statement.
The newborn will join the couple’s 16-month-old daughter, Iris Mary, who arrived on June 15, 2016.
Before the birth of his first child, The Danish Girl actor was excited about the impending surprise delivery.
“I’m excited,” Redmayne said of being a first-time father. “But I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. We just bought our first baby book. So there’s the first step. We’re waiting to find out [the gender]. We want to be surprised. It will be a big surprise either way! I figure part of it I’ll get from the book and part will be just instinct.”
Redmayne and Bagshawe were wed in December 2014. Two months earlier, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor took some time off after Iris’ birth and his big Oscar win.
“I love time off. It’s amazing and so it’s been great because I’ve got to spend the first four-and-a-half, five months with Iris,” he said. “I know that that is a very privileged thing because I speak to many mates of mine who have kids and they’re back into work, days or three later.”
Shortly after Iris’ birth, Redmayne appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“Before you’re a parent, you hear people talking about [not getting a lot of sleep], then suddenly you’re the guy who’s floating in a constant jet lagged [sense], with an IV of caffeine,” joked the new dad.
He added: “It’s that amazing thing when it’s 3 o’clock in the morning and you go in and you’re gently furious, and you get a little smile and your heart breaks a bit, and it’s totally worth it.”
Congratulations to the Bagshawe-Redmayne family!
