Alexis Olympia, the daughter of tennis sensation Serena Williams, 36, has already graced the cover of Vogue. At just six months old she is the youngest person in the history of the magazine to be on the cover.
Of course, Alexis was accompanied by her mama, and in an interview, Serena opened up about her scary ordeal when she gave birth to her daughter and the health complications she faced after. The pro tennis player also admits motherhood may be her toughest match yet.

Williams recalls while in delivery her daughter’s heart rate started to drop. She was advised that an emergency C-section was the safest option to deliver Alexis Olympia and for the mother to be. She went on to say, ‘That was an amazing feeling, and then everything went bad.’
The next day the tennis champion was experiencing shortness of breath and in fear of developing a blood clot notified her nurses of what would be her worst nightmare turned into reality.
She, in fact, had developed multiple blood clots in her lungs and immediately was administered an intravenous drip to stop the clotting. Because of all the coughing caused from the clotting, she opened up the incision site from her C-section, and the drugs that were given to save her life filled up in her abdomen.
A filter had to be inserted into one of her main veins to prevent any clots from entering her lungs and Williams was put on six weeks of bed rest.
Serena goes on to talk about the struggles of being a new mother and we see for the first time the strong-willed tennis champ’s softer side.
Serena says, ‘Sometimes I get really down and feel like, Man, I can’t do this. It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s who I am.’
‘No one talks about the low moments-the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear that baby cry’ she said.
She then admits, ‘I’ve broken down I don’t know how many times. Or I’ll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, Why do I feel so sad when I have a beautiful baby? The emotions are insane.’
Serena hopes for a more ‘normal’ life for her daughter but in the meantime, Alexis Olympia already has her own Instagram account with just over 200k followers. With her Vogue cover debut, the mini fashionista looks to an extraordinary future ahead.
