The Parenthood alum had some unexpected news to share with her fans on Wednesday. Monica Potter, 46, went to her social media with a picture of herself holding what seems like a pregnant belly.
By the looks of her belly, she has been keeping the joyous news under wraps for quite some time. She captioned the picture, “I have something to share….”
Fans responded congratulating Monica, one fan saying, “OMG OMG OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS YAY.” While another fan responded, “I am so beyond happy for you this gives me all the good feels I needed today many blessings to you.”
However, the picture and the anticipation was just a ruse. Potter is definitely not pregnant. She chose to use her Instagram platform and her 65,000 followers to raise awareness of colitis and other digestive orders.
Potter wrote, “I’ve had colitis for almost 2 years and sometimes when I get flareups it’s painful and frustrating, so for all of you who suffer from colitis or other abdominal issues, please know you’re not alone.”
Thank you to everyone who has sent me well wishes. I’m not pregnant but wanted to shed some light on some issues we all may deal with, especially women. It’s never really talked about because it’s not sexy, pretty, our glamorous to say the least, so I decided to share a photo to possibly inspire my friends (you), create a platform to share stories, and rely on each other for support and guidance. I’ve had colitis for almost 2 years and sometimes when I get flareups it’s painful and frustrating, so for all of you who suffer from colitis or other abdominal issues, please know you’re not alone. I’m going for a check up on Friday and following up with colonoscopy this month. I want to stress the importance of getting regular check-ups with your gastroenterologist or family physician. I hope this open discussion will lead to many other things we face as women, mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, and every role we take on. Take time for yourself and go get checked. Even if you’re not having issues it’s important. Please note that I am not sponsored by anyone but me – I did this on my own, and just wanted to share. That being said, a huge thank you to these foundations that are bringing awareness and guidance to all of us for better health💜 #colon #colonoscopy #colitis #ulcerativecolitis #americanmedicalassociation #clevelandclinic #crohncolitisawareness #crohnsdisease #livehealthy #womenshealth #prevention #health
Comments on Monica Potter’s Instagram page seemed positive. In fact, one fan wrote, “I’m crying. I loved you in Parenthood and didn’t think I could love you more until this post. Thank you for shedding awareness to IBD issues. They’re not talked about enough!!!”
Monica who played Kristina Braverman on the idolized hit TV series Parenthood is married to Daniel Christopher Allison. They share their 12-years old daughter Molly. The “expectant” mother has two grown sons from a previous marriage, Daniel, 27, and Liam, 23.
Potter has joked in the past about having a child for every decade of her adult life. In an interview, she said, “I have one every decade. So I started in my teens, then I had one in my twenties and then my thirties. Enough now. No more.”
Balancing a vast age difference has been a trying task at times for the mother and she admits you can’t always please everyone, “What makes me sad is that I can’t get them all to see a movie that the boys are just not into at all.”
And being a mom is the former Boston Legal actress favorite gig thus far, “Once you become a parent, you automatically care less about yourself than you do about your child. It’s even bigger than marriage. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but for me, it is.”
