Haley Joy has Brought a New Meaning to Mother’s Day for Today Co-Host Hoda Kotb
The 53-year-old journalist is a mother to her 14-month-daughter who she adopted in February 2017. Kotb spoke to People this week about her impending plans for the holiday weekend.
“My mom is in town, which is such a treat. So, me, Haley, my mom and Joel are all going to go to this little beach an hour away from the city to just hang for the weekend.”
Hoda reflects on what the meaning of Mother’s Day held for her prior to Haley coming into her life. “For 53 Mother’s Days, it’s been about my mom and getting my mom flowers, and it’s just so crazy. I still have moments now where I wake up in the middle of the night and look over at Joel and think to myself, ‘Oh my God. I have a baby in the other room.’ I can’t even believe that it’s really real.”
She went on to explain, “Imagine living your whole life one way, and then suddenly everything changes and you can’t believe that you get to do that. I’ve dreamed of it, but I didn’t think it would happen, so on Mother’s Day, it’s underscored.”
Kotb admitted she used to feel a sting when random people on the street would wish her a happy Mother’s Day before becoming a mother. Now, the mother welcomes the day with open arms and says the day, “has a whole different meaning.”
And the morning co-host plans on spending the day with her number one gal doing the things that make Haley smile and laugh. “I’m going to spend Mother’s Day with Haley, probably throwing a ball up in the air and doing the things that make her laugh, like touching her nose and saying, ‘Ding dong.”
