British Soccer Player is Absent From World Cup Match to Welcome His Daughter

Family comes first!

Fabian Delph, 28, was a no-show for his team’s pivotal elimination match in the 2018 FIFA World Cup to attend the birth of his third child.

The British soccer player flew home from Russia on Friday to be by his wife Natalie’s side as she gave birth to their third daughter. Natalie gave birth to their daughter Wednesday, five days after Delph flew back to England according to the BBC.

It was high stakes for Fabian Delph and his team who was facing the elimination game against Colombia. It was an easy decision for the midfielder who made no apologies when he made the announcement via Instagram of his daughter’s arrival. Making family his priority of putting his wife and children before the love his sport.  

Team England prevailed with a victory over Colombia on Tuesday winning the match 4-3. Delph confirmed he would be playing in his team’s next match against Russia.

“I’ve just experienced the most amazing 24 hours,” Delph wrote. “Watching my brothers come through a tough game both mentally and physically, I kicked every ball and felt every bit of emotion with the players, staff and fans.”

He went on to reveal, “At 07:52 Me my wife and 2 beautiful daughters welcomed there baby sister into the world. I can’t put into words the happiness and gratitude I’m feeling… Back to Russia now.”

Shortly after the soccer star’s post, his likes climbed to 15,000 and fans wrote to Delph congratulating him on the newest member of his family.

According to Yahoo Sports Delph had the support of his team to duck out for the match. England’s general manager Gareth Southgate released a statement, “Some things in life are more important than football,” Southgate said, according to the outlet. “His focus needs to be with his family at this time.”

Southgate went on to say, “It’s a bit of perspective in life. Everybody says you only get one chance to be in a World Cup, but also there’s only one day in your life where your children are born.”
